BP Ventures & FDF Upgrade Crypto Wallet to Expand Financial Access in Africa
BP Ventures LLC, in partnership with the Freedom Development Foundation (FDF), has launched a major upgrade to its Stellar-based self-custodial digital wallet, aiming to make financial services more accessible in The Gambia and Tanzania. This upgrade introduces seamless gift card, bill payment, and mobile top-up features, powered by Zendit.io, part of IDT Corporation.
Key Features of the Upgraded Wallet
Buy Gift Cards & Pay Bills with Crypto: Users can now purchase hundreds of gift cards from global merchants and pay utility bills directly using USDC, a stablecoin on the Stellar blockchain.
Mobile Top-Ups: Instantly top up mobile phones directly from the wallet, supporting the growing trend of mobile money across Africa.
User-Friendly Experience: The wallet is designed for simplicity, allowing anyone to send, receive, and exchange multiple cryptocurrencies with ease.
“We’re focused on making cryptocurrency useful in daily life,” said Anthony Barker, co-founder of BP Ventures. “This upgrade lets users easily access essential services, like paying bills, topping up their mobile phones, or buying groceries with gift cards, using their digital assets.”

Why This Matters for Africa
Millions in Africa remain underserved by traditional banks, facing high fees and limited access to basic financial services. Mobile money adoption is booming, with 237 million active accounts in Africa processing $919 billion in transactions in 2023. By integrating digital assets with everyday services like bill payments, gift cards, and mobile top-ups, BP Ventures and FDF are bridging the gap between traditional finance and the digital economy, empowering communities with practical blockchain solutions.
